How to boost your immune system

Boosting your immunity might seem like a lot of work, but even the smallest of changes can make a big difference.

    1. Many of us live in the northern hemisphere, so half the year we can become vitamin D deficient. There have been many studies, like (Vitamin D, infections and immunity by Waldemar Misiorowski), that state the positive effect vitamin D has on our immune system. So during the darker months and also if you are unable to get the sun as often as you would like, vitamin D supplements are a easy way to go.

    2. Getting enough sleep can boost your immune system significantly, but to be more precise, lack of a good and healthy sleep can lead to many kinds of health issues. Here is link to Ted Talk on how sleep can improve your immunity with additional videos on the topic.

    3. Avoiding stress. This is as important as having a good rest. Stress has a destructive effect on your body and not to mention your mentality. If you want to read in depth on this topic, refer to this article - Stress, illness and the immune system by Dr Saul Mcleod.

    4. Eating properly and maintaining a balanced diet. Keeping yourself well fed and maintaining proper levels of all the necessary vitamins and nutrients will keep not only your body healthy, but also your mind. This article about nutrition and immunity illustrates just how important nutrition is to our immunity.

    5. Exercise is something you will want to keep on doing and if not then start doing regularly. This will benefit the overall body and your mental state and, of course, your immunity.
