DIY wood deckle for paper making

This is a simple tutorial for a diy wood deckle. All you'll need is some wood for the frames and a mesh.

The mesh shouldn't be too soft as it will stretch when it becomes wet and under the weight of the paper pulp. And it shouldn't be too hard either as it will leave some very noticeable marks on the paper. The best result as far as I have seen is with a window mesh or insect mesh of a medium strength (feels quite sturdy).

You can choose freely the size of the frame, the limitation probably would be the size of the tub you plan to use for paper making and the overall comfort. I find that just under A4 paper size worked best for me. You'll need to make two equally sized frames.

One will have the mesh stapled or nailed over and the other left as is and will be put on top of the first frame when submerging in the paper pulp. The frame is held together by four screws.
